MLA Glenn van Dijken heading to Iowa to strengthen Canada-U.S. economic ties

Jun 5, 2025 | 2:15 PM

Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock MLA Glenn van Dijken is travelling to the U.S. today to attend the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Spring Agriculture Task Force meeting.

The move is an effort to build on progress made by lawmakers to protect and deepen the ties between our economies.

While there, van Dijken will promote Alberta’s role in establishing U.S. food security and share best practices in agriculture and agri-food development. He will also advocate for the province’s unimpeded access to U.S. markets in discussions with decision makers on state and federal agriculture policy issues.

“The agriculture sector and rural Alberta are driving forces in our province’s economy, attracting investment, creating jobs and providing nourishing, value-added food that enriches the tables of everyday Albertans, Canadians and Americans,” he commented. “I look forward to engaging with state-level officials and policymakers to share exactly why protecting and growing Alberta’s agricultural ties with the U.S. is so mutually important.”

The meeting takes place June 5-7 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
