A planned traffic stop on Tuesday near Redcliff led investigators to seize a kilogram of cocaine and charges of drug trafficking for two city residents.

ALERT estimated the street value of the cocaine at $125,000.

Two Medicine Hat homes were searched following the traffic stop.

In a release, Staff Sergeant Ryan Thorburn with ALERT Medicine Ha says ” our enforcement strategy was successful in stopping this large amount of drugs from circulation. This is a sizeable seizure for Medicine Hat and spared our community considerable harm,” said Thorburn.

In addition to the cocaine, ALERT seized $9,180 in cash.

A 24 year old man and a 46 year old female from Medicine Hat are facing charges, including trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
