With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth “Ken” Lehr who passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 81 years, surrounded by his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Anne; his two children, James (Ann Renee) Lehr and Gina (Scott) Pahl; James’ children, Tyra and Zane, and stepchildren, Ote, Shiloh, Shenai, and Ace; Gina and Scott’s children, Alli, Logan, and Kaden Pahl; his siblings, Darlene Stricker (Edgar), Dale Lehr (Marci), and Randy (Linda) Lehr; sisters-in-law, Nancy Lehr and Margaret Perron; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Reiny and Esther Lehr; brother, Gary Lehr, and brother-in-law, Gerry Perron.
Ken dedicated his life to his family and his community. Building the family ranch, Short Grass Ranches, alongside his father, brothers, son, nephews, and their families, brought him great joy and purpose – the “fall calf run” was his favorite time of year. Throughout the years, Ken served on the Kinsmen Club Executive (both at the local and District levels receiving the Outstanding Deputy Governor’s Award), the Medicine Hat Co-op Board for 18 years, the Medicine Hat College Foundation Board, and numerous others.
Ken enjoyed being active and spending time in nature. He loved skiing, camping in the motorhome, hiking, time at their Elkwater Cabin and was often seen biking on his lime-green e-trike. Ken was fortunate to travel to various countries, but his favorite destination was Maui.
Ken’s grandchildren will remember him as a gentle and adventurous soul that loved and supported them endlessly. Ken’s spirit will be remembered and his stories shared with future generations of his family and friends. Although the last several months had been difficult, he was very grateful to all who were a part of his journey.
A Come and Go Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at Medalta Potteries, 713 Medalta Avenue SE Medicine Hat, AB, on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory can be made to HALO Air Ambulance, H.A.L.O. formerly Southern Alberta MedicAir Society, 12 – 1 Airport Drive SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 5G4.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the various units at Medicine Hat Hospital, including 4West and ICU, Pam and Jolene at The Alberta Heart Function Clinic, as well Extended Family Services for their companionate care at home.
