Chief Gord Earl Legacy awards part of annual MHPS open house

Jun 6, 2025 | 3:45 PM

The Medicine Hat Police Service is hosting its annual open house this Saturday.

The service will open the doors to the community from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to provide an opportunity to learn more about the MHPS and its operations through information and displays, demonstrations and building tours.

The Medicine Hat Safe Community Association is also hosting a BBQ at the event.

Twenty-two Grade 6 students will also be presented with awards from the Chief Gord Earl Leadership Legacy Fund.

The fund was established in 2008 to celebrate the contributions of Chief Earl and to honor his memory.

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta administers the fund and each year recognizes Grade 6 students that have demonstrated the core values of the MHPS of integrity, respect, courage and accountability.

There’s also an additional focus on leadership and citizenship.

Elementary schools identify students that have demonstrated the qualities of future leadership.

Since 2008, 253 students have been rewarded through the Chief Earl Leadership Legacy Fund.

The Open House is June 7 between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.

There is no charge to attend this event.
