Clinton “Michael” Twiss
August 8th, 1953 – May 7th, 2025
It is with immense sadness and grief that we announce the passing of Michael Twiss on May 7th, 2025, at the age of 71 years after a brief battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 50 years, Elaine Twiss; daughters, Angela Twiss (Keith Pfeifle), Michelle (Adam) Friedrick, and Nicole Twiss; grandchildren, Lillian and Jack; sister, Marjorie Moncrieff and numerous extended family. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Lillian Twiss; sisters, Audrey Twiss and Dorothy Kohn. Michael was born and raised in High River, Alberta. Like his father, Michael possessed a great love for music. He could play several instruments but his true passion in life was playing the guitar. He began playing at age 14 and he didn’t stop until his last days. He played in several bands during his life and loved to be around fellow musicians. His family will always remember a household full of music and greatly mourn the silence that now follows. After high school in High River, Michael attended SAIT in Calgary where he met Elaine while they both studied Broadcasting. After graduating from SAIT, he worked as a writer in radio, and later, as a cameraman at CFCN. It was after sustaining an injury that he changed career paths and attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, and graduated in 1992 with the support of his wife and young daughters. Michael enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Chiropractor. He practiced in both Claresholm and Vulcan for many years, and for several of those, his wife Elaine worked alongside him. His compassionate and genuine care for patients made a lasting impact on all who knew him, as he always went above and beyond for everyone who entrusted their care to him. After retiring, Michael and Elaine moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to their grandchildren. Michael had a deep love for his family. He was a gentle, warm and funny guy with a great sense of humour and a love of silly jokes—the more absurd the better! His playful spirit will always be remembered by all who loved him, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papa. He enjoyed many hobbies in addition to music, two of which were a life-long love of learning and a life-long love for fitness and walking. He loved his daily walks on the paths in the coulees, often making new acquaintances with people and dogs alike. Michael adored dogs, and spent many years walking the Lethbridge coulees with beloved family dog Sheba. Whether he was out with a dog or with his walking poles, he became a fixture of coulee pathways, and they are a quieter place without him. The family wish to extend heartfelt gratitude for the Palliative Care and Home Care teams in Medicine Hat for their compassion and expertise; Dr. Ahmed and Dr. Erickson for going above and beyond; and the wonderful staff at St. Joseph’s for the incredible hospice care Michael received in his last days. A memorial service in honour of Michael will be held at a later date. As an animal lover, the family ask that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made in Michael’s memory to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
