One week from her 99th birthday, our cherished mom went on her way to the Father in heaven on April 28, 2025. Born May 3, 1926, in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, she grew up in the rolling hills of the Bench south of Gull Lake on her father’s homestead. Medicine Hat became her permanent home where she married John Wesley “Wes” and together they adopted nine children. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Elaine and Heather; and sons, Tim, Kelly, and Bruce (Michelle); along with six grandchildren, (Trystin (Danika), Michael, Rae Ann, Chelsea, Alana, and Brooke; and three great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Wesley, and Gabriel; as well as many cherished and deeply loved nieces, nephews, parish community, friends, and extended family. Her husband, John Wesley “Wes,” and four of her children, Karen, Jo-Anne (Babcook), Daryl (Leiah), and Kevin, predeceased Helen. Mom trained at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan, becoming a registered nurse, working in hospitals off and on through her life. When she wasn’t nursing, she took in many children while raising her six, then nine children. She actively took part in her parish community, leading some committees and volunteering for many activities. Rarely seen without a rosary or a prayer book, or tattered prayer cards, her faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit filled her life. Thank you to all the staff at South Country Village for the outstanding support and care of our mother. Vigil Rights (Prayers) will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 7:00 pm. Public viewing will be one hour before Vigil Right’s from 6:00 pm – 6:55 pm. The Funeral service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 238 – 2 Ave NE, Medicine Hat, AB on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 am with Celebrant Father Roque Pereira.  Memorial gifts in Helen’s name may be made to St. Patrick’s Church or St. Vincent DePaul, 238 2 Ave NE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 6A1.
