Lillian Hunt
July 7, 1930 ~ May 16, 2025
Lillian Elsie Hunt (nee Kobberstad) was born with her twin brother, Lloyd, on July 7, 1930 in Richmound, Saskatchewan. She came into the world as a feisty little three and a half pound baby and that spirited attitude continued throughout her life. Lillian was raised on the Kobberstad family farm with her 9 siblings. Lillian relocated to Medicine Hat and met her first love, Douglas Davison. Doug and Lill bought a ranch outside of Medicine Hat and together they had six children. In the middle of the prairie, Lillian transformed the yard with rock gardens and a lily pond; she was an extraordinary gardener. Lillian also cooked for many ensuring there was always extra for unexpected guests, she sewed clothes and costumes for the kids and took great pride in her home. In an unexpected twist of fate, Doug died tragically in 1970. Unable to maintain the ranch alone with six children, Lillian relocated to town and started her very successful Charlie Brown Nursery School. Her ingenuity and resourcefulness allowed her to support herself and the kids while being at home as the youngest children were only five years old. Several years later, Lillian married Bernard Smith but was again widowed in 1980. She continued the nursery school and married Allan Hunt in 1984. Lillian was always industrious and expressed her creativity through painting, rose malling (Norwegian painting), stitching Norwegian clothing and doilies, was an active member of Sons of Norway and Horticultural Society and spent countless hours gardening. Many hours were spent starting her own seedlings, continuously changing and improving her yard which was featured in Our Canada magazine, and entertaining family and friends on her patio. Lillian loved Christmas; every room was creatively decorated for the season. Lillian’s penchant for flower gardening and Christmas resulted in several garden tours and house tours to raise funds for charity. Lillian’s door was always open to anyone that wanted to enjoy her yard or drop in for coffee and sweets. Mom was an avid dancer and over the years became a big fan of Johnny Reid. It was not uncommon to arrive at her door and find her dancing with the aid of her walker. She and the family continued to have dance parties right up until the recent months. Lillian loved family and the ever growing family get togethers. She was her grandchildren’s greatest cheerleader and looked forward to meeting and holding each new great-grandchild. Lillian is lovingly remembered by her children: Sandra (Garry) Luna, Debra (Philip) Morgan, Clayton (Barbara) Davison, Cindy (Garnet) Amundson, Tamara (Lee) Little and Tracey (Terry) Canham; 11 grandchildren: Taylor, Courtney, Dustin, Landon, Alexandra, Hayden, Logan, Morgan, Chandler, Brian and Maya; 6 great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Morrison as well as many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. As one of the grandchildren said, “Grandma is such a personality and so important to everyone that it’s hard to imagine her going anywhere even if she’s physically not with us.” That sums it up. She will be forever loved, remembered and always missed. Lillian’s family want to extend a very special thank you to Ellen, Juliet and Marilou for the extraordinary round the clock care and love for our mom – you became a part of our family and treated Mom like your own. Thanks to Linda for spending time with Mom creating seasonal crafts and gifts for friends and family. We are grateful for Nitsa and Kim who became an integral and valued part of Mom’s daily routine. The family also extends gratitude to the staff at St Joseph’s Home for their compassionate care and support for our mom and our family. We are so grateful for Mom’s sphere of support and love. Private burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery on Monday, May 19, 2025.
