1931 ~ Margaret Leonard ~ 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret Theresa Leonard, on May 4, 2025, at the age of 94 years. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Cheryl Ellis (Brian Hill), Lori (Marty) Ross, and Marlene (Billy) McKinley; 5 grandchildren, Lindsay (Dallas) Monk, Bradyn (Skyla Gavelin) Ross, Taylor (Ben) Robinson, Eryn Santink, and Ethan Ross; and three great grandchildren, Morleigh Monk, Lainey Monk, and Billy Robinson. Mom was born in Medicine Hat on February 2, 1931, to the late William and Florence Anson. She was the middle child of three with an older sister, Gladys (Wilf Hurlburt), and younger brother, Bill (Lorine Bohnet). Mom lived her entire life in Medicine Hat. She attended Connaught School in her elementary years and graduated from Alexandra High School in 1950. As a teenager and young adult, she worked as a Candy Striper at the Medicine Hat Hospital and was also employed as an Usher/Box Office Clerk at the Monarch Theatre. Mom married our father, Murray Leonard, in 1950 and was his beloved wife for 62 years. They owned and operated “Leonard and Perrett Transport” in partnership with Garth and Nell Perrett for over 50 years. Mom and Dad were involved with the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for many years and were long-standing fans of the Medicine Hat Tigers. They travelled with friends to the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City and Las Vegas, and to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton for 20 years. They also took bus tours to various locations in Canada and went on cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. Mom continued to live in her own home after Dad’s passing (13 years ago), then moved into Senior Living 4 years ago and was hospitalized these past 2 months prior to her passing. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr Majeed, the 5 West nurses at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, and all of the outstanding medical staff at St Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for the wonderful care that Mom received. The Memorial Service will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB, on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Shane Hein officiating. Memorial gifts in Margaret’s memory may be made to Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home, 156 – 3rd Street NE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 5M1.
